With its breathtaking location, surrounded on all sides by steep mountainside<\/span>s of cloud forest, tiny\u00a0<\/span>Mindo<\/span>\u00a0was a delightful<\/span>\u00a0place to visit and for me, another Ecuadorian highlight.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a dramatic arrival just off the Pan American Highway via a\u00a0<\/span>steep and curvy hillside descent that takes you down into the small but beautiful town centre. The place was in chaos whilst we were there – it was one huge construction site<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 new roads, new side walks – it will be amazing when it’s finished.\u00a0<\/span>There are lots of restaurants, bars and coffee shops to cater for your every need – all with super friendly staff.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Depending on your mood at the time, Mindo is a great place to kick back and relax or a great place to get active.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The locals have created an impressive infrastr<\/span>ucture for actively enjoying\u00a0<\/span>Mindo,\u00a0<\/span>and its surrounding\u00a0<\/span>cloud forest, including butterfly farms, zip-lines over the treetops, mountain biking, tubing and orchid collections. But unlike\u00a0<\/span>Ba\u00f1os<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Mindo<\/span>\u00a0has retained its sleepy town feel – but I do wonder how much longer this will last!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A ‘must do’ in\u00a0<\/span>Mindo<\/span>\u00a0is a journey on the unique open-air\u00a0<\/span>tarabita<\/span>\u00a0(cable car) that takes you 152m above a lush river basin\u00a0<\/span>over thick cloud forest and across the valley\u00a0<\/span>where there are a number of waterfalls that you can hike to along well-signposted trails.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Whilst in Mindo I had the great pleasure of meeting up with\u00a0<\/span>Kevin,\u00a0<\/span>a very good friend of mine from Canada. He was travelling from Colombia and I was travelling to Colombia – what better place to meet than Mindo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
