{"id":1901,"date":"2015-10-17T10:38:01","date_gmt":"2015-10-17T10:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldoftravelling.com\/blog\/?p=1901"},"modified":"2015-10-18T11:23:33","modified_gmt":"2015-10-18T11:23:33","slug":"the-medieval-tower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldoftravelling.com\/blog\/?p=1901","title":{"rendered":"The Medieval Tower."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the later medieval period, Shrewsbury was encircled by a defensive wall with a number of watch towers at intervals.<\/p>\n<p>Town Walls Tower is the last surviving of these watch towers and it was given to the National Trust in 1930.<\/p>\n<p>The Tower is currently leased to the nearby School, and is open three weekends each year in June, August and October.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/worldoftravelling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_5498.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1911\" src=\"http:\/\/worldoftravelling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_5498-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5498\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldoftravelling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_5498-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/worldoftravelling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_5498-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the 1860&#8217;s the tower was converted into a dwelling by John Humphreys, of Swan Hill Court. The Welsh bridge is located at the top of the map, English bridge to the bottom. The watch towers can be seen to the left.
